Command & Conquer is a real-time strategy video game, developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment in September 1995.
Plot[]
The game takes place in an alternate history. A meteor crashes onto Earth in 1995 and falls into the Tiber River in Italy. It brings an extraterrestrial substance that scientists call "Tiberium". The substance can absorb and crystallize precious metals from the surrounding soil, change its surroundings and produce toxic gases and radiation that can kill Humans and animals.
A cult society called the Brotherhood of Nood invests in the development of technology to harvest and refine Tiberium crystals, way ahead of the scientific community's own research, and use the resources it gathers to accumulate an international army of followers.
When the game begins, Tiberium has spread across Earth and controls nearly half of its substances while carrying out terrorist activity in wealthy countries and setting up footholds in poorer countries. The Global Defense Initiative, originally founded by the United Nations as an international peacekeeping force during the aftermath of an alternate version of World War II, has later been repurposed as an international anti-terrorist organization, and makes its new goal to eleminate Nod. The conflict between GDI and NOD eventually culminates in war, where the Nod campaign takes place in Africa and the GDI campaign in Europe.
