Gran Turismo is a racing game designed by Kazunori Yamauchi and published by Sony Computer Entertainment exclusively for the PlayStation.

Gameplay[]

Gran Turismo is fundamentally based on the racing simulator genre. The player must maneuver a car to compete against the CPU on race tracks (most based on real life racing tracks from around the world)

The arcade mode is a mode in which you can choose whatever track and whatever car, and cars from simulation mode can also be used. You can do a time trial, or do a regular race. Multiplayer takes place in this mode.

However, simulation mode is a bit different from the arcade mode. The simulation mode is the games core, where most of the game is talked about. This involves you, the driver, start a racing career. You start with a few credits and buy a used car and you rank up in cash to afford better cars and do license tests.

Gran Turismo features 140 cars and 11 race tracks (and have reversed versions as well). Some cars were removed from the game but available in the prototype, but some can be unlocked with a GameShark.

Development[]

The game's development was tough, according to the creators. It took them about 5 years to make the game, and that they were working 24/7, and didn't even have enough time to communicate with family and friends. Even after its long development, the creator still was not satisfied with the hard work put into the game.
