Kingdom Hearts is the first game in the series of the same name. The game is the result of collaborations between Square Enix and Disney, with Final Fantasy characters and settings being combined with Disney's. Sora, the main character, is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, and many other Disney characters on his quest to stop the Heartless.

Story[]

Sora Concept KH1

Sora's original concept art designed by Tetsuya Nomura.

The story begins with Sora, the main character, having a dream where he finds himself falling through the ocean and questioning if anything is real or not. In a flash of light, he finds himself on one of the beaches of Destiny Islands and sees one of his friends, Riku, standing in the water. Riku turns to Sora as a huge wave comes up behind him and offers out his hand. Sora runs to him but the wave crashes down on both of them. Opening his eyes, Sora finds Riku still standing there and tries to swim to him, but gets dragged away by a current.

Sora jumps up from the water and finds his other friend, Kairi, calling him from the same beach he was standing on. He makes his way over to her and she sees something in the distance. Looking in that direction, Sora sees shooting stars and a figure falling through the air. The figure is revealed to be another Sora and with another flash, the Sora on the beach finds himself falling into water, which quickly turns into the sky. As he falls, he ends up in the water once more before landing on solid ground. Taking a step forward, doves fly away, revealing the platform beneath. This platform depicts a picture of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
