Namco Museum Essentials, known as Namco Museum.comm (JP  ナムコミュージアム.comm) in Japan, is a compilation of five classic Namco arcade games, released in 2009 for PlayStation 3. It also served as the exclusive release of the new game Xevious Resurrection. A trial version was also released in Asia featuring the first few levels of four of the classic games. Both versions were delisted from the PlayStation Store on 15 March 2018.

Games[]

  • Pac-Man (1980) – You play as a circular character, with the main goal to eat all of the dots in the level without dying. There are four ghosts by the nicknames of Inky, Pinky, Blinky, and Clyde whom you have to dodge.
  • Galaga (1981) – A fixed shooter in which you have to obtain as many points as possible by shooting insect-like creatures which incessantly try to bomb your ship in a multitude of flying patterns. Only by moving left and right while counter attacking your foes can you defeat them for the greater good.
  • Xevious (1982) – A scrolling shooter in which you have to make it through the world without losing all of your lives. This game has hidden things throughout it called Sol Towers (white towers) and white flags.
  • Dig-Dug (1982) – The objective of this game is to eliminate all of the ground dwelling monsters. You can do this two different ways. The first way is by blowing them up until they pop, and the second one is by dropping a rock on them.
  • Dragon Spirit (1987)
  • Xevious Resurrection (2009)

PlayStation Home[]

Spaces[]

Two Namco-themed spaces were available in PlayStation Home. The Namco Theater contained movie screens promoting Namco products, while the Namco Arcade Center primarily acted as a game launcher for Namco Museum Essentials, though players needed to have a copy of the game purchased and installed on their console to be able to do so. However, there were also several mini-games and rewards available to players for free, directly from within the space, including four slot machines based on The Idolmaster SP, as well as machines that rewarded the player with Namco Museum ornaments.

In the Love Seat game, two players could sit on a special couch to have their compatibility calculated based on their usernames. Depending on their compatibility, one of three prize t-shirts would be awarded: "Cat and Dog" (0-10%), "Just Friends" (11-89%), or "Lovey-Dovey" (90-100%).

Rewards[]

The trial version of the game, titled Namco Museum Beta in Japan, featured a number of rewards to unlock for use in PlayStation Home. It was the first game outwith Home to support the rewards system.
