The PlayStation Vita Slim is the name commonly used to refer to the PlayStation Vita PCH-2000 models due to its slimmer size in comparison to the PCH-1000 models of the system. This hardware revision was initially released in Japan starting in the final quarter of 2013 with overseas releases following throughout 2014, and serves as the basis for the internal hardware of the PlayStation TV.
It is officially referred to as the PlayStation Vita 2000 Model.

Launch[]
On September 9th, 2013 at a pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, Sony announced an upcoming "more casual and easier to use model of the Vita"[5] that was revealed to be somewhat cheaper and have a longer battery life, primarily due to the replacement of the OLED panel with an LCD equivalent. Although the Japanese launch was announced with all six different color variations of the system beginning sale on October 10th of that year, it was unknown at the time when, or if, it would be sold overseas. At launch, it sold for ¥18,980.
On January 30th, 2014, it was revealed that the system would be sold in the UK market starting on February 7th of that year.[6] However, unlike the Japanese launch, only the black colored model would be released. It was sold for £180 and replaced the PCH-1000 model in the UK market with stock of the PCH-1000 being sold at the time of its launch being the final stock of that model produced for the UK.
The North American launch of the PCH-2000 was announced on April 8th, 2014 and set to launch on May 6th of that year.[7] It launched exclusively with the PlayStation Vita version of Borderlands 2 and was sold at $199 at launch.
Reception[]
Sales[]
Although exact numbers for the PCH-2000's sales were never revealed publicly, Sony revealed in a press conference that the new model had boosted sales past expectations, and that the company had some trouble keeping up with demands for stock in the US.[8]
Critical Reception[]
On launch, critics and fans praised the PCH-2000 for solving issues that they had experienced with the PCH-1000, most notably the system's size and battery life. There were also criticisms made over the decision to replace the PCH-1000's OLED display with an LCD display, with most citing that there was a notable downgrade in color display and overall image quality for the PCH-2000 when compared to the PCH-1000.[9]
