Resident Evil (Known as Biohazard in Japan) is a 1996 survival horror game, developed by Capcom for the PlayStation. It is the first installment in the Resident Evil series.
A Director's Cut version and a Director's Cut Dual Shock version were re-released for the PlayStation. The game was also released for the PlayStation Network. A free download for the game (Director's Cut Dual Shock version) was available via PlayStation Home in Part 2 of the minigame: PlayStation Quest.

The health system uses a heart-beat monitor visual and has 5 health stats:
- Fine (Green)
- Fine (Yellow)
- Caution
- Danger!
- Dead (Not shown)

Combat Knife[]
The Combat Knife is the players default weapon. It is everlasting, so the player always has something to fight with.
Baretta[]
A pistol gun. The gun can hold up to 15 bullets per magazine. In the Beginner difficulty, there is a small chance of an instant-decapitation when shot at a zombie. This is found when the player returns to the front doors at the beginning of the game, only to find the rest of his team gone.
