Secret Agent Clank, known as Clank & Ratchet: Mission Ignition in Japan, is a spin-off of the Ratchet & Clank series released in 2008. It stars Clank while Ratchet is being held in prison as a result of being framed. The game's main antagonist is Clank's doppelganger, Klunk.

Story[]

At the Boltaire Museum, Clank is trying to stop the theft of a jewel known as the "Eye of Infinity". Clank spots Ratchet fleeing the scene but he gets arrested. Even though retinal scans prove that it really is Ratchet, Clank believes that he is innocent.

Investigating further into the theft, Clank travels to various places until he comes a figure known only as "Kingpin". Eventually, Clank comes across one of Kingpin's lairs and rescues a scientist. The scientist informs Clank that Kingpin is going to build a laser with enough power to destroy the galaxy. He then reveals that Kingpin is heading to an abandoned space facility.

Later, Kingpin reveals himself to be Klunk, Clank's evil doppelganger from Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Klunk was using a mind control device to act through Ratchet and commit the theft from earlier. He reveals that he plans on using the Eye as a refractor in his laser system, which is at the perfect position to destroy every planet in the galaxy.

Klunk's ultimate plan is to have Ratchet threaten a planet with the laser. Then, disguised as Clank, Klunk would stop him and be idolized as a hero while Ratchet is thrown in jail forever. After this, Clank begins to fight Klunk. Halfway through, Klunk activates the laser. However, Clank knocks him out and deactivates the firing sequence. Meanwhile, Captain Qwark accidentally beams himself on board the laser's satellite, takes back the Eye, and leaves just before it self-destructs. Ratchet is freed and Klunk is handed over to him, with the robot being turned into a new vacuum cleaner.
