The Super Famicom Play Station is a prototype Super NES console developed by Sony, in co-operation with Nintendo. It was never released to the public.
Background[]
Very little information is known about this console. It first surfaced on the web on June 6, 2007. Two photos of the prototype were uploaded by Jason Dvorakk, a gamer and collector, to his website Game-Rave.com with the comment "Nope, it's not mine. I know nothing about it. Seriously, the only thing I know is this: It's real".[1]
In the days that followed, news of the leak broke on several technology and gaming websites, including Kotaku,[2] Joystiq[3] and Engadget.[4]
On June 8, following the coverage, Dvorakk posted an update on his website denying speculation that the prototype was the Super NES CD-ROM add-on Sony had been working on in the early 1990s. He also provided his own take on what the system could be, before reiterating that "yes it is real, yes it is a prototype, and no, I do not have anymore information than that". He also went on to say his source "did not have time to discuss it with the actual owner."[1]
